Peru

The Republic of Peru is the third biggest country of South-America with more than 29 000 000 inhabitants. Its capital is Lima, located on the central coast of the country. Thanks to the chronicles redacted during the conquests of the 16th century and thanks to the Incas and the archeological excavations, the history of the big civilizations of pre-Hispanic Peru could be rebuilt.

Peru has a surface area of 1 285 220 square km and shares its borders with Equator, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chili. Moreover, it is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and has large natural areas as costa, sierra and selva. Like Mexico, Peru is characterized by different reliefs and climates, and by exceptional natural resources.

Life in Peru turns out to be a little bit more expensive than its Bolivian neighbor. This said, as the Peruvian ground is largely indexed to the dollar rate, the real cost of your stay will also depend on the dollar-euro exchange rate. Here is a few examples :

Basic products Prices in Euros / Peruvian Sols
1L of water (botel) 0,36 € / 1,4 PEN
1 meal (2 dishes) 2,67 € /  10 PEN
1 bus ticket 0,4 € / 1,5 PEN

Famous for being one of the richest country of South America, Peruvian cooking is indeed varied and delicious even if we do not find this diversity in every restaurant of the country. Foods and drinks have always been serving as offerings to Pachamama, the motherland. With a special mention to quinoa, that has been nourishing for more than 5 000 years the Andes farmers.
